Two shores, one long walk. The Rocks is Tallawoladah — Cadigal sandstone on the west of Warrane, the convicts’ side of the Tank Stream, pubs and yards climbing toward Observatory Hill. Plague resumptions after 1900, then the Green Bans of the 1970s, are why a terrace city still stands instead of a freeway. Barangaroo, immediately west, is the renamed stevedoring foreshore: Hickson Road and the Hungry Mile, finger wharves, then the empty apron after the boxes went to Botany. The headland park opened in 2015. The name is a Cammeraygal woman’s, not a developer’s beach.
This post is the phone in your pocket from Circular Quay west around the point. One kept its houses. The other was demolished as a port and rebuilt as a park and towers. Both are still harbour edge.
